Extensions
“C” extensions are custom fit to each bass and can be fully reversed. I do NOT cut the scroll, but rather fit around the scroll. Only a single hole is drilled to house the string and apply downward pressure to keep the extension in place, no screws are used.
I offer fingered extensions built with a single “E” latch and multiple latch extensions. An adjustable nut is installed to ensure proper intonation on your instrument. Latches are hand made of solid, seasoned ebony. They are designed for ease of use and comfort under you finger and are fully adjustable for height and tension. The underside of my extensions are slightly recessed and hollowed for easy movement of the hand. Reference points can be added when possible.
I prefer an ebony body for its stability and its lightness compared to brass. For those who wish to conserve ebony, extensions can be built out of maple with an ebony fingerboard. This type requires a bit more time to build, but is a wise alternative for this scarce resource.
I have encountered a few instruments where the scroll is placed in such a way that an extension is not possible. Therefore measurements must be taken to determine if your instrument will accept this modification.
