Restorations

I offer complete repair and restoration services for doublebass and 'cello. I make every effort to bring the highest standards to my work on all instruments, whether student or collector. Repairs are carried out applying time honored methods, quality materials, and precise work. Only fresh hide glues are used for non-invasive, reversible repairs.

Artistic restorations are carried out as well. Great attention to detail is taken in this practice. I consider all the measurements and characteristics of a given instrument and make appropriate decisions with the customers intentions and the instruments enhancement and preservation in mind. I apply reversible restoration methods, leaving original surfaces when possible and blend new areas to the old making a cohesive overall appearance without over-varnishing. Seasoned European and North American tonewoods are used. These can be artificially aged to give the appearance of being old. While mellowing the wood’s tone, this gives it a sweeter sound with less play-in time, making it more stable and less of a shock to the instrument.
